Marking their long-awaited return, Foxwarren share metamorphic new single ‘Listen2me’. Fronted by singer-songwriter Andy Shauf, the Canadian quintet has gone quiet since the release of their self-titled debut in 2018. The new track arrives with the announcement of Foxwarren’s sophomore album 2, and it promises a reinvented sound that can be attributed to the imaginative implementation of a sampler. ‘Listen2me’ is a distinct departure from the understated, honeyed soundscapes that remained consistent throughout Foxwarren. Recounting a lover’s quarrel, Shauf’s plea to be heard is conveyed through his consistently soft and unassuming vocal delivery, bolstered by colourfully assertive instrumentation. With curt, buzzy guitar lines, percussive thuds, the interception of a distant piano motif and a sudden descent into an unnerving string passage, the track is a perfect depiction of the quiet isolation which arises from feeling misunderstood and the friction which results.
